After taking 2 full days off (something that I haven’t done in way too long), I am back to work this morning.  I am still recovering from the sleep deficit I built while staying with my father.  And, I have added a layer of physical exhaustion on top of that with an uphill hike yesterday.  The wonders of modern technology mean that I get to spend the next few days in Lake Placid juggling both work and fun. Fortunately for me, the type of work I have to do today is the kind I can do while plugged in to some music.  That should help keep me awake.
I have spent the last couple of days with my nieces (ages 7 and 12).  In addition to hiking yesterday, there were a couple of marathon monopoly sessions with the 12 year old. We then started a 500 piece puzzle together too close to her bedtime.  I worked on it alone for a little while before I decided that I too was ready for bed.
The 7 year old is a bundle of energy.  She slept in this morning because she hiked at least twice what the rest did.  She had a tendency to run up ahead of us, run back to see what was taking us so long and then running ahead again.
I also got some nice time with my brother and sister-in-law.  They are both people I enjoy spending time with.  And every year, David and I have the best of intentions to go visit them. The problem is that getting to their house requires both a cross-country trip and a fairly substantial drive.  Somehow David and I never find a large enough window that fits both of our schedules.  Thus we only get to see them and their kids once a year.
Besides work, I am not clear on what the rest of the day has in store for me.  Once I am done writing this post, I should be able to get a couple of hours of solid work done while everyone else has headed off to their own activities.  There are rumors of possible canoe excursions and walks into town around lunch time.
Tomorrow is supposed to be cold and rainy, so people are trying to take as much advantage of the good weather as possible. That may make it sound like I should go off and play and put off my work until tomorrow.  But I know with everyone hanging around at home, the temptation of hanging with the nieces will be too great.  Thus I content myself with looking out the window and as my father-in-law just said “tap-dancing across the keyboard.”
