Feels Like Home

I am now halfway through my week in Lake Placid with family.  There are 11 of us up here, but the house is large enough that we are not tripping all over each other.  Groups regularly excurse in different configurations, which pretty much guarantees opportunities for one:one or small group conversations with pretty much everyone.  This is a great way to catch up with people we don’t manage to see enough of.
This morning is cool and rainy.  A group has headed out for a hike, but they were smart enough to grab their rain gear.  I am planning on getting some work done in the morning and then David and I were hoping to take a walk into town.  If the rain remains a gentle drizzle, I suspect our plans will hold.  A downpour, however, will most likely mean staying home and finishing the puzzle or playing monopoly with the older of the two nieces.
The weather is making me a little homesick.  Fall is my favorite season in Portland.  I like the drizzly rain and cool air.  This being the east coast, I have had my share of hot, muggy days this trip.  I hate hot weather, so I am very happy to be  snuggled up in 3 layers, the top one being my fleece.  I suspect I have a while before I get to wear this many layers once I return home, so I will enjoy it while I can.
Yesterday, I spoke with my father who kept thinking I was my brother.  This time I could actually rationalize his confusion.  My brother and I are both on vacation with our in-laws.  My brother and David’s brother share a name, as do their wives.  And both couples have two girls.  Since my father can’t retain his granddaughters names, I am not too surprised that he assumed I was talking about my niecelettes.
There was a little more drama on the aide front, but nothing that can’t wait until I get home.  Unfortunately for me, there is a lot I have been putting off until I get home.  I have been managing my workload fairly well since I arrived in Lake Placid.  I have stayed on top of my email and spent a little time every day on all of the sites I am currently working on.  What I have also been doing is setting up meetings for after my return.  Suffice it to say I will be drinking a LOT of coffee with people once I get home.
